Instead, Sam has stepped away from a gift shop that he runs and it has been taken over by spider monkeys. Perhaps one of the biggest changes that has been made is in relation to Trader Sam. It appears Trader Sam has turned the Jungle Cruise’s lost & found area into his very own gift shop (you know Trader Sam, he’s always looking to make some money and come out ahead). The cruise builds to an exciting climax as the boat narrowly escapes angry natives, dangerous rapids, and a headhunter camp. After surviving the adventure, the cruise concludes back at the boathouse where guests disembark. The Jungle Cruise lasts approximately 7-10 minutes depending on the skipper’s pacing and boat traffic.
The biggest changes up to that point came in 1994, when the attraction was rerouted and shortened to make room for the then-upcoming Indiana Jones Adventure attraction. In addition, the ride (and the entirety of Adventureland) were rethemed to be set in the 1930s to tie into Indy. Ahead of its official reopening on July 16th, we were invited to a media preview of the newly updated ride today in Disneyland.
